Opinion: Battlefield 1 launch day

Like a pristine ice sculpture the Battlefield 1 launch is beautiful at first glance but the longer you play the more the beauty slowly melts and the faults show.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm a huge Battlefield fan but past launches have left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm suffering from Deja Vu. Battlefield's developer DICE have had a nasty habit over the past few launches of releasing unfinished games and it's no different here. But Battlefield is like a fine wine or your mother... It gets better with age!
Mother jokes aside I know DICE will patch out the graphical nuances and hit detection foibles over the coming months and the game will ascend to its rightful place, just in time for Christmas sales no doubt.
The game is gorgeous and god damn fun though, that alone is worth overlooking any minor shortcomings. Think of it as an investment like Overwatch or GTA online, there's still plenty to come.
The setting alone is the best thing to happen to Battlefield since the simply brilliant Vietnam DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and coming from me that is high praise. The maps are beautifully rendered and the attention to detail apparent at every turn. Though I've noticed our characters have exceptionally clean nails for such believably mucky environments.
I've yet to sink my teeth in to the campaign and will leave that rant for another day but multiplayer is as strong as ever, I would love to say a definite COD killer this year but like a hacker with aimbot, some things will never die.
First impressions count and the fact I'm dying to play more instead of writing, quite frankly says it all!
